Pumpkin Hot Chocolate
This pumpkin hot chocolate is such a simple-yet-comforting recipe to whip up. Adding pumpkin puree and warm fall spices enhance this simple hot chocolate to a decadent delight. Chocolate pairs so well with the pumpkin and we know this will become a fall favorite around your home!
Ingredients
- 4 cups of milk (or milk alternative) of your choice
- 4 tbsp. of maple syrup
- 2 tbsp. brown sugar (you can omit this for a less sweet version)
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
- 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder *
- Pinch of sea salt
- 2/3 cup of chopped milk chocolate or milk chocolate chips
Directions:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the milk, maple syrup, brown sugar to a simmer. Once it is hot, whisk in the remaining ingredients. Keep it on a medium heat and whisk until it is all incorporated – no lumps of cocoa powder and all of the chocolate is melted.
- Top with some toasted marshmallows and chocolate shavings, if desired. Or a dollop of whipped cream! Serve immediately.
- You can certainly make this vegan, by using a dairy-free milk alternative and using a dark cocoa powder. (Dark cocoa powder shouldn’t contain milk products. Swap out the milk chocolate for dairy-free dark chocolate, too.)
- * We love Valrhona cocoa powder, if you can invest in some quality cocoa powder, you will be able to taste the difference!
